Today, we will discuss how to create your own business website while enjoying a cup of coffee. As we already know, having a website for your business is essential. There are 8 reasons why you need a business website. Isn’t that true?
We’ve also touched on the 4 types of business websites: corporate websites, e-commerce, minisites, and blogs.
So, how do you create your own website for business?
Here are the basics you need:
(1) A stable internet connection; (2) An email account, whether it’s Gmail.com or Outlook.com; and (3) An online payment method like internet banking, credit card, or PayPal.
Easy Steps to Create Your Own Website
Once you have these basics, there are two main things you need to create a website:
(1) Hosting; and (2) DNS.
Anything else? Oh yes, make sure you have several cups of coffee ☕☕☕☕.

Web Hosting
Think of it this way. A website is like your shop. To open a shop, you need a space. It doesn’t matter whether you own the land or rent a spot in a shopping mall. In the online world, your shop space is your web hosting.
Can you host it yourself?
Yes, but if you want to do it on your own (like setting up a shop at home), you’ll need to keep it running 24 hours a day. That’ll cost electricity. Then you’ll need your own server, install a firewall, set up the operating system, and other technical stuff.
To simplify things, just use a web hosting service. You can pay annually, which is more cost-effective, and you don’t need to worry about maintenance.
Where can you rent web hosting?
There are free options, but for business, it’s better to use a paid one. A paid service will allow you to host your website, set up your own email address, and install other systems as needed. Later, we’ll talk about accounting systems. Interested?
Back to hosting…
There are many web hosting providers both locally and internationally. For users in Malaysia, it’s highly recommended to use local hosting services.
Why?
(1) If Malaysia’s internet connection to international lines (under the sea) is damaged—whether by sharks biting the cables, submarine accidents, or earthquakes—your customers will still be able to access your site.
(2) You won’t be affected by currency fluctuations. I used to prefer overseas hosting because it was faster and cheaper, with more storage space. Then the RM currency dropped, and I ended up paying a lot more. Lesson learned! 🤣🤣🤣
Where to rent web hosting in Malaysia?
In Malaysia, you can use ServerFreak or Exabytes. Both are highly reliable based on my experience and reading reviews online. They’re consistently ranked among the top 10 hosting providers. You can use either one or do your own research to find what suits you best.
You can click the links above 👆👆👆 for more info and to rent hosting from them. In a future article, we’ll walk through how to rent and set up hosting step by step.
After that, we’ll use WordPress to build the website.
Why WordPress?
Because it works for any type of business website—blogs, e-commerce, minisites, or corporate websites. Another thing, WordPress is currently the easiest platform to install and use.
We’ll cover how to create a website with WordPress and how to use it in a future post.
DNS or Domain Name System
Now that we’ve understood hosting, let’s move on to DNS. In this easy guide to building a website, DNS is crucial. DNS (Domain Name System) is like the address of your shop.
If people don’t know where your shop is located, you need to give them the address. On the internet, your shop address is in the form of a DNS, such as http://gerbangbisnes.com, http://www.serverfreak.com, http://exabytes.com, or http://daftartrademark.com.
How to get a DNS or domain name?
For Malaysian domains (such as .my, .com.my, .net.my, and .org), you need to register with MyNIC or a registered agent. For international domains like .com or .net, you can register with services like GoDaddy.
To make things easier, you can register the domain while renting web hosting. Later, we’ll show how you can do both at the same time using ServerFreak as an example.
See you next time…
